#TV for Teachers – Pick of the Week – Chef v Science: the Ultimate Kitchen Challenge

As part of ERA’s commitment to helping licence holders make best use of the material available to them, we have decided to start highlighting our ‘top pick’ each week. We’re hoping to reveal multiple educational uses for a single episode, series, or film with enough time to act as a ‘heads up’ for teachers to be able to record, or access the material.

This week BBC4 offers an unusual take on a cookery show. In Chef v Science: The Ultimate Kitchen Challenge a scientist and a Michelin star chef compare their routes to preparing a dinner.

From the BBC:

Materialist scientist Professor Mark Miodownik challenges two-Michelin-star chef Marcus Wareing to the ultimate cookery competition. Over the course of 90 minutes they cook up some of the nation’s best-loved dishes, from starter to dessert, in a head-to-head contest to see who can create the most flavoursome food. Marcus has flair, passion, and experience, while Mark an understanding of cooking at the molecular level and access to state-of-the-art technology. Ultimately the question they will try to answer is this: is cooking a science or an art?

An amazing resource for Food Technology teachers, the programme could be used to look at the practical application of technology in the kitchen.
