Covid-19 Update

Due to the unexpected repercussions of Covid-19 on the running of educational establishments, we realise that a lot of uncertainty exists around how organisations such as our own are functioning and if our resources will still be available to educators outside of the classroom.

The answer is yes – your ERA Licence permits you to continue to use TV and radio broadcast materials for remote teaching. You are permitted to use our Members’ broadcast content in any live lessons that you may be streaming to your students, as long as any clips or programmes are shown via a secure network only accessible to your pupils and staff.

Pupils, parents and teachers are also able to access broadcast content directly from home – either watching it live or on broadcasters’ catch-up services – as this is deemed to be personal use.  Those accessing BBC content will require a TV Licence. Third party services such as ClickView, Box of Broadcasts, and Planet eStream are also still available to students to use remotely.

As we think that TV and radio may be especially useful mediums for remote teaching and learning, we are currently developing some new resources to sit alongside our existing ones to assist in this transition from classroom to remote learning. These include digitised copies of our Subject Collections that were previously only available at events, as well as a number of worksheets and revision guides for students to use at home.

ERA as an organisation is still open as usual, but please note that all of our staff are now working from home. We have remote access to our telephone system, but if you have any difficulties contacting us that way, please send us any queries about your Licence and/or the resources we have produced to support teaching and learning via email ( or Twitter (@ERAresources).

If you’re an educator using our resources, please also share this information with others who are looking for resources – we want to make sure that as many people as possible have access to them.
