Synopsis
The story of beautiful Chinese courtesan Saijinhua. Following the Opium War, China was demoralised and impoverished while an enemy army demanded the death of the Empress Dowager. Saijinhua, running a brothel in Beijing, was drafted in to act as the official interpreter to the army's commander, an admirer from her days in Berlin. She saved the life of the empress and assisted in the peace-making process over the last years of the Chinese Empire. But was she a heroine of the anti-foreign Boxer Rebellion or a traitor to its cause?
