Synopsis

Roy Hattersley continues his personal account of the Labour Party's fortunes. The Long Retreat. From the depths of despair in the early 1980s, the party began a long haul back to respectability under the leadership of Neil Kinnock. However, in its struggle to become electable, it became too preoccupied with what it did not stand for rather than its core beliefs.
