My Village, My Life

Duration: 49'26''

Synopsis

In the week of the opening of the Festival of India, Prafulla Mohanti , author and writer, presents a unique portrait of an Indian village. Born the youngest son of a peasant family in Nanpur, 200 miles south of Calcutta, he is now based in London but each year returns to his village where life is measured by the sun, where peace and simplicity co-exist with poverty and suffering. This profile offers a rare insight into the lives of its people; the astrologer, the barber, the priest and the widow are among those who talk of their hopes, fears and beliefs and describe a way of life which has developed over the centuries and which Mohanti believes still has meaning today.
