Synopsis
Nero can be seen as the archetypal villain. He murdered his two wives and mother, subjected the Christians to gruesome persecution and burned down Rome. Walden explores the reasons behind his people's acceptance of his crimes, and suggests why, even today, monstrous tyrants can gain the willing consent of the public.
