Synopsis
Today, the name of Niccolo Machiavelli is usually invoked to condemn cynical and ruthless acts of self-interest, especially in politics. Yet, as tonight's unscripted talk reveals, this 16th-century Italian diplomat advocated a devious approach because he believed the flaws in human nature necessitated it.
