Synopsis
On the last leg of his voyage down the Thames, Patrick Wright reflects upon its associations with political matters since Civil War days, when Oliver Cromwell 's army council met in St Mary's Church, Putney. On his journey through London, Wright recalls tragedies such as the 1989 Marchioness disaster, and looks at how the Thames will be a focus for millennium celebrations.
