Synopsis
Nakhodka lies at the end of the Trans-Siberian Railway, 6,000 miles and seven time zones from Moscow. At 33, Tatyana Naumova is Town Council Secretary and a leading Communist Party activist. Her task is to chase inefficient managers and bungling bureaucrats, and to deal with the public's complaints about housing and social services in this Pacific port. She also runs the Palace of Weddings, where Soviet couples are ceremonially joined together, with all the trimmings, once every ten minutes. Tatyana's own marriage and her two young daughters are not allowed to interrupt her workaholic routine or to diminish her ambition. As she says: 'Every soldier dreams of becoming a general'.
