FAQs
Welcome to our Subject Playlists! It’s a brand-new resource from ERA that we’ve made to make tracking down programmes and clips for your lesson as easy as possible. However, you may have some questions about how it all works – fear not, you can find the answers here!
What are Subject Playlists?
Our subject playlists are a curated selection of TV and radio programmes and clips that have been specially selected to match the GCSE specification for your subject. Each playlist currently includes five clips or programmes, with the longer programmes being time-stamped for your convenience.
What are the time stamps and how do I use them?
The time stamps indicate the points within the programme or clip that match key themes in each subject specification so that you don’t have to watch the entire programme just to find a four-minute clip! When the watch/listen button is pressed, the programme will open up in a separate tab, so you can just skip forward to the point in the recording you want and check back later if there’s another clip from that programme that you want.
What level are the Subject Playlists suited to?
As it stands, the Subject Playlists have been created with GCSE students in mind and are based on existing GCSE subject specifications. However, some programmes and clips may be relevant to students at other levels of study, so it might be worth taking a look at the Playlist for your subject even if you do not teach at this level. We may in the future add Playlists suited to other levels of study, so keep your eyes peeled!
You don’t have a Playlist for my subject or topic – why is this?
We have chosen our current selection of subjects on the basis of feedback provided to us from the teaching community. Our current selection of topics within the subjects have been chosen as they are the most recurring topics covered by the GCSE subject specifications from AQA, WJEC/Eduqas, and Edexcel/Pearson, so we thought that these would be of use to the widest range of teachers.
However, we will be looking to expand our selection of subjects and topics in the future, so if you have any suggestions, please get in touch. You can contact us via email era@era.org.uk or find us on Twitter @ERAresources.
I’m a teacher and would like to contribute to future Subject Playlists – how can I do this?
We love hearing from people who are enthusiastic about our work! If you’d like to get involved in some way with the development of future Playlists, whether it just be providing feedback on what we currently have or presenting us with some ideas of your own, please feel free to contact us via email era@era.org.uk .
