Subtitles now available on over 75% of Shakespeare Archive content
We’re pleased to share a recent in-house project that’s making the BBC Shakespeare Archive even more accessible and useful to teachers and students alike.

Over the past few months, we’ve been working to add subtitles to the extensive collection of BBC Shakespeare productions available through the ERA website, including variations of set texts like Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and Othello.
The Shakespeare Archive includes over 1,000 programmes covering plays, poems and sonnets that are widely used across the English curriculum. Now, more than 75% of this content includes subtitles, helping to:
- Support students with hearing difficulties
- Aid in detailed language and textual analysis
- Make Shakespeare more accessible for all learners
This update forms part of our ongoing commitment to inclusive and enriched educational resources.
