Joseph Shabalala and his group sang iscathamiya, a Zulu unaccompanied harmony style. When Paul Simon travelled to South Africa and recorded with Ladysmith Black Mambazo- the resulting album, Gracelands, was a huge boost for South African music and the country's fight against apartheid.
