Synopsis
The 18th century was a time of great upheaval, with forces old and new poised to attack the established Protestant Church in Britain. The Catholics threatened religious war, reformist sects began to challenge the Church's comfortable monopoly, and new ideas in science and philosophy questioned the very truth of Christian faith.
