Henry IV, despite failing health, has to organise a new campaign against the Northern rebels, and sends his younger son Prince John of Lancaster to negotiate with the rebels.

The rebellion against Henry IV has been crushed, and their leader Hotspur has been killed. The rebels were weakened by the defection of the armies promised them by Northumberland and Glendower.
